In a world of magic, irony and fantasy this book follow the story of our protagonist "The Bunedia family" or, " the founder's of macondo", through seven generations. This book paved the way for what we call 'magical realism'. Narrating the fortunes and misfortunes of the 'Bunedia Family', they seem to be both metaphorically and physically hunted by the ghost of their past. After their passing, they appear to return as ghost or to be reincarnated in the next generation. The trend of naming their offspring after their predecessor makes the book puzzling yet it proves that the Bunedia family is doomed to  repeat themselves in the solitude of their own making and recurrent the history itself. This book teaches a part of real life events such as the "Banana Massacre" in 1928.

Lastly this book covers political uprising, religion, plagues, industrial evolution, civil war and Latin history.
